Why your clinic is invisible in Google Maps (and how the local pack actually works)
When a patient searches for a treatment near them, the three map results at the top capture the majority of taps. Everything below is competing for what remains.
Three factors govern that placement: relevance, distance and prominence. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search. Distance is fixed by geography. Prominence is the one you can meaningfully influence — it reflects review volume and recency, citation consistency, and the completeness of your Google Business Profile.
The most common failure we see is a profile created once and never revisited: no service list, no hours, no photographs, no review process. Competitors with weaker clinical credentials outrank strong practices simply because their profile is maintained.
Start with completeness. Fill every field, list services individually, add real photographs of the actual premises, and confirm your hours. Then build a repeatable process for asking satisfied patients to review — a consistent trickle outperforms an occasional burst.
